Asked whether she was prepared for the intense personal scrutiny that would likely accompany a federal lawsuit, Glenn replied, "It has been said that evil triumphs when good men do nothing. I'm not exactly a man anymore, but I'm not going to do nothing."

Mean what you say. . . say what you mean

  • Apr. 11th, 2008 at 7:51 AM
Spring 2008
So I'm the type of person that says what I mean.  I am finding that people always assume you are not.  It's annoying as fuck.  If I say I'll be there - I'll be there.  If I say I will call - I will call.  If I say I want to hang out, well guess what...I want to hang out.  Its not really hard to figure out.  And how many times can you be second guessed before you say to hell with it?  Sorry just annoyed - so here I go again - I will say what I mean.  When I tell you something - I'm not saying it for my health.  I'm not saying it because I mean something else.  I am saying it for EXACTLY what it means.  The world doesn't have to be so complicated.  On the flip side of this - I expect you to say what you mean.  If you tell me you are going to call - you better call.  If you tell me you are coming to hang out, you better come.  If you tell me something - you best be following through with it.  I will respect those that respect me. If you don't respect me don't expect me to hang around much longer.  It's about give and take - equally.  You can't give give give all the time and you can't take take take all the time.  Equal. .  period.

The wax is still melted on to the chalk pillar which served as an Easter Sunday altar for the men of the Suffolk Regiment more than 90 years ago. Old helmets are scattered around the floor. A heap of cans, including a tin of Turnwrights Toffee Delight, lies alongside a collection of old stone jars - flagons of rum, perhaps, to numb the fear...

Impeachment is unlikely, of course. But we must still urge Congress to act. Impeachment, quite simply, is the procedure written into the Constitution to deal with presidents who violate the Constitution and the laws of the land. This, I believe, is the rightful course for an America patriot.

Happy New Year

  • Jan. 1st, 2008 at 5:04 PM
Out on the town!
May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.

OH WHAT A NIGHT

  • Feb. 25th, 2007 at 11:36 AM
Out on the town!
I decided to attend a fundraiser that Gaylaxicon was holding at Miss Q’s Saturday night. With much involvement from the OutWorlders and the Gaylaxicon organizing committee, a casino night was born as a fundraiser. Pay either $10 or $25 and get “money” to play one of several games: roulette, craps, black jack, and no limit Texas hold ‘em. Members of either or both group helped by donating items for door prizes to those who bought in to the event.

My initial table was poker where I bought Ed, OutWorlders president, a drink and settled into what would be a very short run. Turns out that I cannot bluff worth a damn. Shortly after sitting down I was slinking away licking my wounds. I stopped by the roulette table where my pal Robert was quick to explain the odds and methods of betting. Let me just say this, I LOVE roulette. I suppose it is good that I have never been to Las Vegas and probably should not go now. I turned my initial $100 into just over $1,000. I felt like I could not lose, and I know that is not how the game turns out in Vegas.

At any rate, the fundraiser was successful and we had a great time with our mini Vegas. As the evening wrapped up for the fundraiser all tables were packed away, with the exception of black jack, to let the main stay business of Miss Q’s get underway: pool, darts, karaoke, and of course flirting. I made my way over to the black jack table where my friend Michael was dealing. I decided I would run out my winnings at his table. As I sat down there was an empty seat to my left. As we played, I made eye contact with cuteness personified, later to be found named Jonathan, and motioned for him to sit and play – I even staked him!

As the black jack table wrapped up three of his friends had joined him. Levi, Billy, and Kelli. The four of them turned out to be straight, Jonathan's girlfriend was running the karaoke, and hanging out while waiting for Jonathan's girlfriend. All too soon, the karaoke was too much to take, at Levi’s suggestion they were heading over to the Independent off Monroe by Hoedown’s. Michael and both were shocked when they asked, really insisted that we join them.

So that is how two gay guys headed off to a straight bar with three straight guys and a straight gal, early Sunday morning. We stayed until 2ish and then headed out. I have to admit we had a BLAST with them. Levi and Billy were very flirty, while Jonathan was very upfront about girls and what he liked, that is until we offered him money to spank his ass. Then he said he would think about it, while his friends said he would do it. As Michael and I were leaving, we ran into the girlfriend who had finished at Miss Qs. We chatted with her in the parking lot for a few minutes. She did not seem surprised at all that her friends picked up two gay guys and brought them back to a straight bar to hang and play video games. The best time I have had out in ages. They may even turn up at a future Heroes night, we will just have to wait and see!

After all this, excitement Michael and I decided that we needed a bite to eat before bed. We dropped by our friendly neighborhood Waffle House. While waiting for our food and chatting, I saw someone who looked very familiar. While trying to figure it out and talking it hit me. This was Paulie, the person that Steven is dating. I am super happy for Steven for a few reasons, but that is not the issue. I read Paulie’s MySpace page regularly and love it. He has a very sharp wit and has worked as both a retail trainer and as in-flight.

I waited until his dinner partner went to the restroom and asked if his name was Paulie, it was and I went over to introduce myself. It was a bit awkward, but I let him know how much I love reading his adventures! What a night, I was not home in bed until around four or so, but what FUN!

BACK IN THE SADDLE AND TRYING TO TAME A HORSE

Work
Work continues to be both interesting and challenging. My manager is without a doubt the single best manager I have ever had in terms of people skills and motivational management. I find that I not only respect her, but willing want to live up to whatever standards I believe that she might have. The other side of this is that I am not yet comfortable with what I am doing and how to do it. My manager is incredibly busy and I feel a bit on autopilot from time to time with no real idea of what my next project should be, or at least until someone calls to find out why I have not completed schedule such and such. That sucks; as it is normally a few days after it was due that they seem to call. This leads to me trying to figure out what report/schedule and such, and then how to do it. *sigh* I know that this part will get better. I have spoken to my manager about it recently and the result is that we both were unaware of what some of my responsibilities were from the accounting group’s perspective.

I work with other analysts and financial managers who I like and find to be very capable, perhaps a little intimidating even. I worry that my earlier lack of knowing what to do when coupled with my newness to the position might have lowered their estimation of my work character or perceived skills. There is not much I can do about either of these except buckle down and produce now that I know what I am supposed to do and by when. My closest peer carries a title similar to mine, except with a senior in front of it. I am in awe of that person’s ability. I have a skill set to shoot for, and hopefully we can begin to work well together as we enter a period of frantic work and demand that will start in the next week.

I am not sure about most other companies, but where I work we use the standard Microsoft tools, but also a host of other products such as Hyperion (data management), JD Edwards, Oracle Tools, and Cognos to name a few. I am surprised to learn that the training for these tools was nonexistent. ZERO formal training in the office or outside the office environment, no manual. There is some side by side when explicitly requested, but that is it. I was working over the weekend recently and my manager came in to help with the question/project at hand. We were looking for certain data and it was suggested that I try looking in program X. Well I had a login and password; it got us to the main splash screen where we then floundered a bit. I realized that my manager also had about as much of an idea as I did on how to use this tool, and that is NONE. In general, I am not a fan of weeks spent in classroom training on software; however, I may begin to change my mind.

More to come. . .
